Select Malaysia, Manufacturers Blackberry Doubt Build Plant in Indonesia


Secretly Indonesian side has been in talks with Research In Motion (RIM) as a manufacturer Blackberry so that they build a factory in Indonesia. But it turns out RIMchose to build a factory in Malaysia.

Head of Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan said, RIM is still hesitantto build a plant in Indonesia is because the demand for data center development by the government of Indonesia.

"The data center it loh reason," said Gita when asked RIM's investment in Indonesia.Gita met at the headquarters of BKPM, Jalan Gatot Subroto, Jakarta, Monday (07/25/2011).

Gita explains, Indonesia has been urged to rethink RIM membagun centernya factory and move the data into Indonesia.

"We signed on. We've been talking to them. They are still considering investing inIndonesia," he said.

As reported previously, to expand its product marketing in Asia, RIM decided to build amanufacturing plant BlackBerry in Penang, Malaysia. Malaysia is considered as a fittingplace to strengthen RIM's market share in Asia, including Indonesia.

In fact, Indonesia is the largest base of BlackBerry users in Southeast Asia with a number of more than three million subscribers. This figure is believed to still be growingalong with the incessant activity of RIM's marketing partners in Indonesia. Indonesia itself has a mobile market with a rate of more than 180 million subscribers.

Indonesian Telecommunications Regulatory Body (BRTI) was disappointed with thedecision of Research in Motion (RIM) who prefer Malaysia than Indonesia as aproduction center for Asia BlackBerry.
