Richard Gere met the President at the Palace

Actor Richard Gere, who is also a Golden Globe Award winner, met with PresidentSusilo Bambang Yudhoyono and First Lady Ani Yudhoyono, at the Presidential Palacecomplex, Jakarta, Sunday (26/06/2011).

Gere was in Indonesia at the invitation of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. While inIndonesia, Gere, who is also the founder of Tibet House, a Tibetan cultural center in NewYork, is scheduled to visit Borobudur Temple.

When I met the President, Gere, who brought along his wife and child, accompanied by Minister of Culture and Tourism Jero Wacik. At a meeting that lasted one hour, the Headof State and Gere discuss humanitarian activities.

"Sir Richard said, if there is a great humanitarian events, he is willing to be involved,"Jero said when contacted by reporters on Sunday (06/26/2011).

President, Jero, also enjoyed meeting with Gere. Both also briefly talked about art. Jerosaid Gere's presence in Indonesia is expected to increase tourist arrivals to the country.

Gere also asked to be ambassador to Indonesia to the world of international tourism. "I hope he'll be told about the Borobudur and Indonesia. So people are not afraid to come to Indonesia," Jero said.

On Sunday night, watching Gere Ballet Masterpieces Borobudur (The Masterpiece ofBorobudur Ballet) which took place on the open stage Aksobya.

Meanwhile, on Monday (6/27/2011), Gere, who is also leader of the InternationalCampaign for Tibet (ICT) will perform the ritual "Peace Walk" (the way of peace). In this ritual, Gere will surround Borobudur temple three times while reading parita-parita(Buddhist prayers).

Richard Gere will also visit Mendut and Pawon and tourist villages by elephant or horse-drawn carriage. On Tuesday (6/28/2011) morning and flew to Bali after a visit in Bali,Richard Gere will return to his country.
